3 Inclusions You Need With Your Boat Insurance
Taking ownership of a boat gives you a bunch of new possibilities for recreational activities and activities that you can do in the sunshine. Whether you want to go fishing on a regular basis, or if you are interested in sitting out the middle of the lake and enjoying the views, you will enjoy having your own boat. When you purchase boat insurance, you will have a number of options for inclusion, just like auto insurance. Boat insurance, however, does not always have state or city mandates. Here are three inclusions that you should be sure to get when you are getting boat insurance coverage.
1. Towing insurance
To get your boat to and fro, you may find yourself towing your boat to the lake or ocean. If you have to travel on heavily trafficked roads or highways in order to get your boat to the water, you will need to have towing insurance. It is best to include this with your boat insurance rather than your car insurance as not to raise your insurance prices. Boat towing coverage will make sure that if anything happens while you are towing your boat, such as an accident or the boat slipping away, the boat will be covered and can be repaired.
2. Your extra equipment
It is common for boats to have extras and additions. If you like to fish, you may have fishing rods, nets, and equipment designed to help catch or prepare fish. If you have other equipment such as water skis and a lifeboat, you will want to include this equipment in your insurance policy. Since they may remain on your boat indefinitely, you want to make sure that this equipment is also covered in the event of a total loss of your boat due to an accident or act of nature. Be sure to name all equipment when purchasing the insurance policy so that your items will be noted as included when making a claim.
3. Emergency medical coverage
Medical issues may not be common when they are on the water, but accidents do happen. Issues such as hitting another boat or someone slipping and falling while on your watercraft can happen any time you take your boat out for a ride. To make sure that you can cover any bodily harm that happens to yourself or to someone else, include medical coverage with your boat insurance. Be sure to keep a policy of your comprehensive boat insurance that includes medical, as some closed docks and lakes will require this on your policy.
